'The Peterborough Phantoms v Milton Keynes Lightning Challenge matches to be played on 8 & 9 September now take on new meaning as they play for the first silverware of the season - The Ashes
This summer has seen several changes of personnel between the two teams including the high profile Phantoms appointment of Dwayne Newman as Head Coach
As equipment is normally tailored to a player it moves when he does, but with Phantoms wanting the kit and MK also wanting to keep it the 2 owners decided on a compromise - burn it, urn it and put it up as a trophy.
Phantoms General Manager said - Games between the two sides are always competitive, but it will be nice to draw first blood for the coming season and I am sure Dwayne will be looking to put the Peterborough name on the trophy first.
In reply Harry Howton acknowledged that the rivalry was still as fierce as ever between the two teams and this new trophy to be played for annually encapsulates what has been strong competitive sprit between the two teams over the last five years or so. Whatever the outcome on the ice this competitive sprit has been good humoured . I am sure players, fans and owners will all still share a drink afterwards, hoping the first round would be on the Phantoms |
