Pink Is The New Black For MK's Icemen
The Milton Keynes Lightning will be breaking down sporting barriers this coming playoff season as they plan to don 'pink' shirts in aid of Breast Cancer Care. The traditional black, gold and red kit have been put aside to wear the hot pink shirts in hope of raising both awareness and funds for the worthwhile charity. Ice hockey is the world's fastest team sport and is known as a rough, physical and aggressive game. Pink is not a colour associated with this testosterone driven sport. However, the Lightning will be hoping that pink is their lucky colour as they will be hoping to win a trophy that they have claimed 4 of the last 5 years. The playoffs will be starting in mid March as the top 8 teams in the English Premier League look to do battle for the final piece of silverware up for grabs this season.

Head coach Nick Poole on the club's new look, 'It will certainly be a first for myself and all the guys to do battle in pink shirts but we are looking forward to it. I think everyone has indirectly been linked with someone who has suffered with breast cancer and we are very proud to be helping such a great cause. It is particularly resonant with our team as we have a player who's mother is battling against it presently. We are excited about the playoffs as it has always been the focal point of our season and now getting behind Breast Cancer Care has only added more emphasis to our playoff drive. Our goal is to be wearing pink in front of a full house in Coventry at the Final Four.

Rebecca Smith, Breast Cancer Care Area Fundraiser said,
‘120 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every day so the demand for our free services is greater than ever. We couldn’t help so many people if it wasn’t for the hard work of the local community and groups like The Milton Keynes Lightning Hockey team. I would like to say a massive thank you to Nick and all the team for choosing to support Breast Cancer Care. Their efforts will help make a real difference to the lives of people affected by breast cancer.”

MK Lightning will be announcing their playoff dates over the next few weeks when the final league positions are known. Breast Cancer Care will also be looking to have a stand at some or all of the games to raise funds and awareness on match nights.

The pink shirts will be available for both private and corporate sponsorship with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Care. We don't think these shirts will be available for long so please act quickly. Please contact the MK Lightning Supporters Club for details on how to reserve your shirt dave@b2promodesign.com
