MK Ice Gems Break British Record
MK Lightning’s Cheerleaders The Ice Gems are celebrating after attempting to break the British Record for the largest Cheerleading stunt group. The Pyramid, which went three levels high and consisted of 43 members, was completed at the Official opening of the Queensway on Sunday in blustery conditions.

The squad had also hoped to set a second new British record for the highest Pyramid with cheerleaders going 4 levels high, but this attempt was too dangerous in the blustery conditions. The squad now hope to set this record at an indoor event in December where they will be fundraising to compete in the World Championships in America in March 2008.

Breaking records is becoming second nature to the squad who are also part of The Bruce Forsyth Big Dance Team which hold the Guinness World Record for the largest Dance set in November 2006.

Fiona Delaney director of the Ice Gems said “Breaking the British title for the largest Pyramid is another great achievement for cheerleading in Milton Keynes. However we must also thank our invigilating Officers Pete Winkleman and the Horizon Black Thunder Crew who were present on the day and without whom we would not have been able to validate our attempt.”

The squad are now anxiously waiting on verified acceptance of their attempt from the governing body and are busy preparing for competition and promotional events overseas as their IGC Elite squad are due to compete and display in Germany, Euro-Disney, Chantilly, Paris and America in the next few months, trips for which they are urgently seeking sponsorship for. Further information on Sponsorship or joining the Ice Gems can be obtained by calling Fiona on 07707 338649.
