After suffering a shock home reversal against Wightlink Raiders at home the previous evening, Lightning faced a tough trip to Surrey to take on the Guildford Flames who were on a 3 game winning streak. Still without the injured Lewis Christie and Adam Radmall, Lightning iced Adam Carr as a stand in defenceman, with Ross Green also making the trip down to help the shorthanded D. From the off it was clear that MK wanted to get the previous nights result out of their system, and some good work from all the lines made Flames realise they were in for a tough evening. On 04.27 Ales Pares found Matt Towalski who fired towards goal, and although his shot was saved by Joe Watkins in the flames net Muzzy Wales was there to force the rebound over the line. At the other end, Barry Hollyhead had to be sharp to make saves and keep the scoreline at the end of the first period 1-0 in Lightning's favour. Shots on goal for the first were 8 on Flames and 11 on Lightning.

The second period saw Flames up their efforts to get the equaliser, but yet again Hollyhead held firm, and when the puck did find a way past him the pipes came to his rescue. With the MK goal leading a charmed life, Lightning tried to take the game to the flames, and on 31.19 Lukas Zatopek found Andre Smulter down the left. Andre's quick pass across the net found Gary Clarke, who waited for Watkins to commit himself before firing the puck into the roof of the net to double the lead. Towards the end of the period, the first line linked up again, with Nick and Gary feeding the puck to Andre, this time on the right, and as he cut in he let fly with a wrist shot that flew into the top corner over Watkins blocker at 39.39. As the period ended, Lukas was deemed to have boarded Zavoral, which the Flames import took exception to and punched Lukas after the whistle. The resulting minor fracas saw both players start the 3rd period serving 2 minute minors. Shots on goal in the second showed how much Lightning dictated things with Flames facing 17 to MK's 9.

With the 3rd starting 4 on 4, MK stretched their lead to 4 when Matty Towalski fed Ales Parez from behind the net and his one timer left Watkins with no chance, Chris McEwen getting the extra assist at 41.28. This woke Flames up a bit, and as Zavoral came out of the box he found himself free in a 3 on 2 rush and fired low past Hollyhead from Rick Plant's feed to reduce the arrears on 42.09. With Flames trying hard to get back into the game their persistence was rewarded on 54.26 when Taras Foremsky fired into the roof of the net from David Savage's pass. With just over 5 minutes left, MK dug deep and saw out the time for the win. At 58.03 though, Zavoral eagerness got the better of him as while trying to fire a loose puck in he slashed Barry across the head. A fight ensued between Muzzy and Zavoral, with Mark Williams of the Flames also entering the fray by starting on Ales. Grant McPherson also got involved, and after the dust had settled Zavoral, Williams, Mcpherson and Wales had all been given 2+2+10 for their parts in the fight from referee Joy Tottman, with Zavoral also receiving 5+match for the initial challenge on Hollyhead. With shots on goal pretty even in the 3rd with 11 on flames and 10 on MK giving totals of 36 and 30 respectively, Lightning came away with a well earned 2 points for both league and cup. Man of the matches were Hollyhead for Lightning and Savage for Flames.
