Last year’s bogey team, Slough Jets, were finally beaten with a battling performance by Lightning who completed their first four point weekend with a 3-1 victory. Lightning failed to take a single point in six meetings with Jets last term so this win was all the more satisfying. Nick Poole’s got off to a great start taking the lead after 5mins 49secs through former Jet Blaz Emersic who was set up by Juraj Gracik. That was the only goal of the first period which saw no penalties called by referee Dave Cloutman. It took just over a minute of the second session to elapse before Jets player coach Doug Sheppard was called for cross checking. However Lightning could make nothing of the powerplay chance. There was no score either when Lewis Christie was penalised for charging. The period ended with Jets Ryan Watt and Lightning’s Michael Wales in the sin bin after they clashed. Lightning doubled their lead when Gracik found the net on 44mins 14secs but Jets’ reply was swift with Dan Davies beating goalie Alex Mettam 26secs later. With the clocking ticking down Jets withdrew goalie Gregg Rockman – giving Lukas Zatopek the opportunity to register an empty net goal to seal the tie. For the second game in a row Mettam picked up the man of the match award. Slough Goal
