8.10.11 MKL v Telford

Lightning maintained their unbeaten home record with a 3-0 win against a much improved Telford Tigers but it was hardly a vintage performance with the visitors unlucky not to have got more from the game.

At times Lightning allowed Tigers to take control of the encounter and it was they who looked more likely to score. Thankfully goalie Alex Mettam was in super form to earn a shut out and the man of the match accolade.

The hosts took the lead on 9mins 21secs when Nick Poole went up the right and made a great pass to Adam Carr who shot first time to the right of goalie Declan Ryan.

Mettam made good saves from both Tomas Janak and Joe Henry as the first period ended 1-0 to Lightning.

It was Tigers who looked the livelier of the sides in the second session so it was a cruel blow for them when a defensive error allowed Blaz Emersic to find Juraj Gracik in space. He was able to feign a shot before finding the net on 33mins 51secs.

Tempers boiled over between Leigh Jamieson and Tigers Andy McKinney just before the break and both received four minutes for roughing.

Tigers took off Ryan with 35secs to go and it had an immediate consequence with Poole supplying Jamieson to score an empty net goal from long range three seconds later to make it 3-0.
