A super empty net goal from Leigh Jamieson sealed a 6-4 victory for Lightning over Guildford Flames at the Thunderdome.

In an intriguing encounter Lightning had to battle back from going 3-1 down in the second period – that after taking a 1-0 first session lead. That they achieved it was tribute to their never say die attitude.

It took until 14mins 47secs for the opening goal when Matt Towalski redirected a Tom Norton blast from the blue line past goalie Mark Lee.

The second period was just 24 seconds old when Guildford stunned the home faithful with the equaliser coming from Ben Campbell who found space behind Alex Mettam to net.

Lightning were then rocked by a Paul Dixon on the powerplay after 24mins 34secs before Flames claimed a third goal only 1min 3secs later – Campbell again on the mark.

It was vital Lightning got back in the game quickly and they did so when Grant McPherson registered on the powerplay after 29mins 21secs.
The hosts were quick off the mark at the start of the third period when Juraj Gracik sent a high shot into the net after only 46 seconds.

While Flames were still reeling from that Adam Brittle set up Adam Carr to put Lightning back ahead after 43mins 39secs.

Back came Flames though with Curtis Huppe equalising on 52mins 31secs during a powerplay.

With 2mins 40secs remaining Gracik squeezed a powerplay shot into the net off the back of Lee to give his side the advantage again.

Lee was replaced by the extra skater in the final minute or so – giving Jamieson the chance to secure the points with a goal scored from his own defensive zone at 59mins 24secs.
