25.9.11 Peterborough v MKL Ashes 2nd Leg

ImageLightning came back from going two goals behind in the first period to draw level in the second leg of the Ashes Trophy at Peterborough – only to lose the game to a late Maris Ziedins strike.
However with the 5-1 win from the first leg under their belts it was not enough to stop Lightning reclaiming the trophy they lost narrowly last year – running out 7-4 aggregate winners.
Lightning had a ‘goal’ disallowed in the first ten minutes – the officials ruling that the puck was kicked into the net.
It was James Ferrara who gave Phantoms the edge with a goal on 16m 27s and the Cambridgeshire outfit’s new import, Erik Bochna, made it two to his team after 18m 5s.
There were no further goals in the second period as Lightning struggled to get back into the game.
It took until 53m 30s for the goal judge’s light to go on again – this time it was Michael Farn with a blue line blast finally beating goalie Damien King.
Captain Adam Carr then levelled things up as the clock ticked down before Ziedins edged Phantoms ahead again with 1m 13s remaining to make it 3-2 on the night to the hosts.
