Blaz Emersic and Adam Carr were the heroes of Lightning’s dramatic penalty shoot out victory at Swindon Wildcats which moved them up to second in the league table. Sixty minutes of regulation time and five minutes of overtime failed to separate the two sides who were tied at 1-1. As the game went to penalty shots Jonas Hoog failed to convert his effort with Emersic putting his shot past new Wildcats netminder Dean Skinns. Michal Pinc also missed for Wildcats so it was down to Carr to wrap up maximum points – and the captain duly obliged with the game winning goal to make it 2-1. Lightning had fallen behind early in the encounter at the Link Centre when Aaron Nell provided the pass for Pinc to beat Lightning man of the match, goalie Alex Mettam after 3mins 59secs. There was just one penalty in the first period with Lightning unable to make anything of a ninth minute hooking penalty on Steven Whitfield. As the second session progressed neither side could make any further headway even though the visitors were presented with a five on three powerplay when Joe Baird followed Pinc to the sin bin with under five minutes of the period to go. Lightning finally got back in the match when Leigh Jamieson set up Lukas Zatopek for the equaliser 4mins 10secs into the third period. The visitors then had a ‘goal’ washed out for interference on the - the only time the puck hit the net again until the penalty shoot out.
