Lightning endured the frustration of conceding a two goal lead to Swindon Wildcats at the Thunderdome as they went down 3-2 to the Wiltshire visitors.

Nick Poole gave the home side a dream start when he seized on an error by netminder Thomas Murdy who failed to hold a Lewis Christie long range shot after 28 seconds – sweeping in the loose puck.

The lead was double after 7mins 40secs when Juraj Gracik supplied Leigh Jamieson for a rocket shot from just inside the blue line which went into the net to the far side of Murdy.

Lightning looked to be on course for a second win of the weekend but Swindon quickly struck back when a mix up in front of goalie Alex Mettam’s net saw Nicky Watt cut the gap after 8mins 38secs.

The home team started the second session on a powerplay hanging over from the first but it was Wildcats who got the goal when former Lightning defenceman Shane Moore threaded the puck through to Jonas Hoog who beat Mettam one on one with just 47 seconds gone.
Only 58 seconds later Mettam was caught out by Aaron Nell’s first time shot from Michal Pinc’s pass.

From then on it was a night of frustration with Lightning unable to produce enough decent shots when given four powerplay opportunities - even after withdrawing Mettam for the extra skater on the last of them in the final minute or so.
