1/12/12 Guildford v MKL

Lightning bounced back in super style after tasting defeat 48 hours earlier when they stunned league leaders, Guildford Flames, with a 6-2 victory in front of a crowd of more than 2000 at the Spectrum Centre.

Nathan Rempel put Flames in front from a Branislav Kvetan set up after 3mins 59secs and the hosts led for the remainder of the first period – Lightning unable to capitalise on two powerplays.

But soon after an interference penalty on Kvetan expired early in the second session Ross Bowers struck for his first goal of the season at 28mins 54secs – Juraj Gracik and Adam Brittle getting the assists.

Gracik also had a hand in Lightning’s second after 34mins 6secs as he supplied Blaz Emersic with the pass for the go ahead goal.

From then on Lightning tightened their grip on the game, keeping the scoring at 2-1 at the second break.

It was in the third session that the visitors stamped their authority when a penalty for cross checking on Kvetan proved pivotal with Nick Poole combining with Leigh Jamieson for the Brit to score on the powerplay on 45mins 53secs.

Lightning then stretched their lead to 4-1 as Emersic bagged an unassisted strike at 48mins 12secs before Milos Melicherik briefly gave the hosts hope with a goal after 54mins 26secs.

Less than a minute later though Lightning hit their fifth of the evening with Poole the provider for Michael Farn at 55mins 11secs before Jamieson got his second of the game – Gracik the supplier – to make it 6-2 after 56mins 21secs.
