Lightning left it late as they made it their fifth win in a row with a 3-1 victory at Telford Tigers after going a goal behind. Josh Bruce, set up from Andrejs Maslovskis, put the home side in front after 4mins 14secs while Leigh Jamieson was sitting out a tripping penalty.
And despite their best efforts Lightning could not get back in the game with Telford hanging onto their lead at the first break – and at the end of the second as well with Lightning unlucky to have a had a shot cleared off the line in the middle session.
Lightning started the third period short-handed but were in no mood to give up a further goal. However they could not register one either when given a powerplay five or so minutes in.
It took a Nick Poole assisted Gary Clarke strike to finally beat goalie Martin Clarkson on 53mins 13secs.
Now forced to attack to regain the lead Poole was again the supplier when Adam Brittle put Lightning ahead for the first time at 56mins 4secs on the powerplay.
Lightning then conceded a penalty for having too many men on the ice with 1min 25secs to go but that did not stop Lukas Zatopek putting Blaz Emersic away for the third goal to make the game safe.
