Lightning ended their losing streak with a 3-1 win at Swindon Wildcats after being handed a great start with an early powerplay.
Wildcats defenceman Joe Bair was penalised on a two plus ten minute penalty for checking to the head and from the resulting powerplay Nick Poole was able to supply Adam Carr for the opening goal on 2mins 30secs.
However that was the only goal of the period with Swindon unable to make anything of an interference call on Leigh Jamieson.
Lightning edged further ahead on 26mins 26secs when Wales was the provider for Grant McPherson to shoot past goalie James Hadfield.
A hooking call on Lewis Christie came and went with Swindon unable to make an impression and they fell further behind when Wales’ efforts in providing assists on the first two goals saw him bag one for himself from Adam Carr at 36mins 2secs.
With Lightning heavily outshooting Swindon to the tune of 28-9 in the second session the home side withdrew Hadfield for the final period, Chris Douglas taking his place.
Douglas stemmed the flow of goals but at the other end of the ice Swindon were unable to turn the game around – their only strike coming on the powerplay at 45mins 23secs through Lee Richardson while Jamieson was sitting out a holding penalty.
