Slough Jets dealt a major blow to any lingering hopes Lightning have of retaining their English Premier League title when they emerged 7-4 victors at The Hangar.

After a goalless first period which was probably shaded by Lightning the visitors fought back from going 4-1 behind in the middle session to go in level at 4-4 at the second break.

But any chances of the Lightning revival continuing in the third were snuffed out with three unanswered goals by the hosts.
Blaz Emersic was given a warm welcome by fans on his return to the club he left a few weeks ago. But that was as far as the generosity went with Jets players doing everything they could to close him down.

The middle period was just 29 seconds old when Adam Calder netted for Jets. Lightning got back on term with Lewis Christie setting up Gary Clarke after 24mins 40secs.

But just 14 seconds later Darius Pliskauskas put the home team back in front and then just 1min 6secs after that Doug Sheppard got the assist as Calder bagged his second of the game.

Things got even worse with Aaron Connolly making it 4-1 after 27mins 19secs.

Then came the big Lightning fightback with Nick Poole the provider for Adam Carr on 29mins 17secs.

Joe Greener was called for roughing in the 34th minute, from which Leigh Jamieson fired in on the powerplay at 35mins 33secs.
Twenty six second later Michael Wales tied the game up from Michael Farn’s pass.

Sheppard edged Jets in front at 49mins 31secs and then added another to make it 6-4 on 52mins 12secs.

In the final seconds Lightning withdrew goalie Barry Hollyhead for the extra skater and Slava Koulikov was able to capitalise with an empty netter five seconds from the buzzer.
