Slough v MKL 11/12/10

Lightning’s outside chance of qualification for the semi finals of the English Premier League Cup was ended by a third period Doug Sheppard goal at Slough Jets.

Nick Poole’s men had fought back from a two goal deficit to go into the third period level pegging at 2-2. But Sheppard’s second strike of the night, on the powerplay, was sufficient to ensure that the Berkshire side go into the semi finals.

Lightning needed to win the game and hope that Slough slipped up against Bracknell the following weekend to go through.  But it was not to be after Slough took the lead on 15mins 7secs with a Darius Pliskauskas goal, beating goalie Alex Mettam.

Lightning had a powerplay chance towards the end of the period but Jets held on for a 1-0 lead at the first break.

The hosts then doubled their lead early in the second when Sheppard hit a delayed penalty goal at 22mins 28secs.

Lightning responded with Poole hitting the back of the net for a powerplay goal at 25mins 41secs.

Adam Brittle then drew Lightning level at 34mins 31secs.

The third session proved to hard fought but Sheppard’s goal at 46mins 47secs proving to be the clincher.
