Peterborough v MKL 24/10/10

Lightning ran out of steam with a continuing short bench as they lost 4-2 at Peterborough Phantoms.

Until the end of the second period MK – still missing Monir Kalgoum and Lewis Christie - were matching their hosts and it was only a 38th minute goal from Luke Ferrara that saw them go into the second break 3-2 behind.  But with Nick Poole and Matt Towalski playing on despite injury MK found themselves under fire in the third session, goalie Barry Hollyhead facing 17 shots while at the other end of the ice Stephen Wall only had to contend with seven.

Tom Carlon opened the scoring for Phantoms on 2mins 15secs from Warren Tait’s set up.

But it was not long before a slack line change allowed Andre Smulter to go clear and beat Wall at 3mins 29secs for the equaliser.

The first period ended 1-1 but Lightning slipped behind again when Ferrara to bag the first of his two goals for Phantoms at 23mins 24secs.

Smulter capitalised on another defensive error by the home team to make it 2-2 at 36mins 41secs – assisted by Adam Brittle and Gary Clarke.

Ferrara soon put Phantoms back in front however on 38mins 23secs.
A fine reverse pass from Carlon was sent past Hollyhead by Maris Ziedins on 54mins 29secs to make it 4-2.
