It was Lukas Zatopek’s turn to sit out the game as the fifth import with Nick Poole returning to the second line to partner Monir Kalgoum and Adam Brittle – Gary Clarke joining Blaz Emersic and Andre Smulter on the top line.
Tigers held out until 8mins 52secs when Grant McPherson skated in on goal to take and convert Michael Wales’ pass.\ Goal number two followed on 15mins 25secs when Poole found Kalgoum unmarked on the right of goal to register. And from then on Tigers already looked a beaten side – especially as they could only muster four shots on goalie Alex Mettam during the entire first period.
Less than a minute later at 16mins 20secs Wales set up Emersic to shoot past goalie Martin Clarkson.
A rebounding shot from Leigh Jamieson off the boards behind goal was snapped up by Clarke for the fourth goal after 24mins 42secs and he was unlucky not to score again shortly after when his shot hit the outside of the post.
Tigers failed to pick up the speeding Matt Towalski who took McPherson’s pass to make it 5-0 at 35mins 53secs.
There was a moment of cheer for Telford when Josh Bruce netted with a shot which Mettam blocked but could not stop trickling over the line 1min 21secs from the second break.
Clarke stunned Tigers with goal number six just seven seconds from the face off as Lightning went on their first attack of the third period.
Clarkson was unsighted when Michael Farn took the tallies to 7-1 with a shot from distance on 43mins 43secs before Joe Henry got Tigers’ second on 45mins 20secs.
Poor marking by Tigers allowed Smulter to break free on the right to score from Clarke’s pass from the left to complete the scores at 50mins 27secs.
