MKL v Telford 15/1/11

Bottom of the table Telford Tigers were given a lesson in shooting in a game which was effectively over by the end of the first period as Lightning ran out 7-1 winners at the Thunderdome.

The hosts took a four goal lead by the first break and although they unable to add to their tally in the second they were never in much danger of a Telford comeback.

Blaz Emersic set up Leigh Jamieson for the first goal at 6mins 23secs while his side was on the powerplay with Ashley Stanton sitting out a roughing call.

Adam Brittle was then the provider when Emersic beat goalie Declan Ryan for the second goal after 12mins 8secs before there was a delay in play while injured Tiger, Scott McKenzie, was attended to.

Soon after Nick Poole supplied Gary Clarke to fire home against his home town club on 15mins 20secs and 1min 24secs later it was 4-0 thanks to an unassisted Emersic goal.

The home side outshot Tigers 14-6 in the first period and although they were not quite so dominant in that respect in the second, Tigers could not get a foothold – the main action coming with Grant McPherson’s tussle with Mike Jones. Both received two plus two for their troubles and McPherson earned himself an extra two minutes for charging.

Fans had to wait until 9mins 6secs into the third period for goal number five when Nick Poole provided Adam Carr with the opportunity to score.

Carr then turned supplier for the next two goals – firstly for a rare Lewis Christie goal on 54mins 32secs and then for Clarke with his second of the game after 57mins 15secs.

That took the score to 7-0 and just as the game looked as though it was heading for a second successive home shutout for goalie Barry Hollyhead the visitors destroyed the hope with a shorthanded consolation goal by Andy McKinney on 57mins 58secs.  It was all too late though to make a difference against a rampant Lightning.
