Six Lightning players got their names on the goal scoring sheet as the team cruised to a 9-4 victory over a short benched Swindon Wildcats – the margin of the win probably flattering the visitors.
It was only two late goals by the Wiltshire side that get their score respectability in a game which Lightning controlled for the most part.
Michael Farn got things moving on 3min 9secs with a blue line shot which goalie Chris Douglas got a touch to but could not stop from trickling over the line.
Swindon were made to pay when Josef Liska was given two minutes in the sin bin for cross checking Michael Wales. It was Wales who set up Blaz Emersic for the second goal on the powerplay at 11mins 46secs.
Liska capitalised on confusion around the Lightning net to get one back for Swindon at 16mins 11secs.
A super Farn break from the neutral zone 52 seconds after the break saw him fire high past Douglas for a short handed goal while Gary Clarke made it 4-1 at 24mins 6secs. It was enough to earn him man of the match for the second game running.
Liska and Jonas Hoog then went on a breakaway with Liska getting his second goal at 25mins 43secs before Lightning restored the three goal gap with Andre Smulter setting up Adam Brittle for a well taken goal at 34mins 2secs.
It took just 4mins 17secs of the final session for Brittle to return the compliment with Smulter scoring while his team were short handed.
Smulter got the final touch when Clarke fired from the blue line on the powerplay on 46mins 48secs.
A further powerplay resulting from a hooking call on Egid Bauba seemed to be fizzling out when Leigh Jamieson burst through, bore down on netminder James Hadfield who had replaced Douglas after the hosts’ fifth goal.
Lightning’s final goal came from Clarke who went one on one with the goalie on 55mins 35secs.
A blue line Matt Foord goal at 58mins 18secs and a Lee Richardson strike at 58mins 51secs gave Swindon late joy but was not enough to affect the result.
