MKL v Guildford Flames 17/10/10 |
Impressive Guildford Flames proved too strong for injury hit Lightning at the Thunderdome when they won 5-1. Already missing Monir Kalgoum, injured, Lightning started without Lewis Christie and then lost the services of young defencemen Ross Green during the second period.
Green was taken to hospital after taking a puck on his chin but, thankfully, only had to have stitches. However his departure meant another rearrangement of the lines with Adam Carr dropping back into defence and forwards doubling up on shifts. In the end the absences and changes told with Flames eventually making the score look more comfortable than it was.
A rocket shot from Ben Campbell on 14mins 15secs put Guildford ahead on the powerplay. Goalie Barry Hollyhead was caught cold at the start of the second period when a quick pass from Campbell found Nathan Rempel who rifled the puck in after 1min 17secs.
A superb redirection of Andre Smulter’s pass saw man of the match Adam Brittle give MK hope at 26mins 35secs but Rempel sent the home side in at the second break trailing 3-1 thanks to a short-handed goal with 49 seconds remaining.
Further strikes from veteran David Longstaff in the 48th minute and Martin Masa 44 seconds from time made Flames’ win secure.
