Basingstoke v MKL 7/11/10

Lightning were 15 seconds from a four point weekend when their hopes were gunned down by veteran Steve Moria at Basingstoke Bison on Sunday.

After leading 3-1 going into the final five minutes Bison got one back through Moria on 55min 3secs.

Seconds later goalie Barry Hollyhead was injured in a goalmouth scramble and had to be replaced by Alex Mettam.

With just over a minute to go the home side withdrew keeper Dean Skinns for the extra skater and Moria levelled the tallies with 14.9secs of regulation remaining time.

There was then further heartache for Nick Poole’s men when Ondrej Lauko claimed victory for Bison with a goal 2mins 45secs into overtime, Lightning having to settle for the solitary point.

It all looked different earlier in the game when Lightning took a two goal lead with an Andre Smulter assisted goal by Lukas Zatopek at 12mins 22secs.

Matt Towalski, with a super break away strike, made it 2-0 at 24mins 8secs.

Lauko got Bison back in the game with a goal at 33mins 41secs but Lightning ended the period 3-1 in front thanks to a Leigh Jamieson powerplay goal while his team had a two man advantage at 35mins 36secs.
