Two More Back for Lightning

ImageThe Milton Keynes Lightning can confirm that two more valuable offensive players will return to the ranks in September, with the news that Adam Brittle and Grant McPherson have re-signed for the 2012-13 season. The coming season will be Brittle's fourth consecutive term with the Lightning and McPherson's sixth. Image

Adam, 26, first signed for MK in summer 2009 and since then has established himself as a lightning-fast playmaker who can also find the back of the net - as well as having the ability to supply pin-point accurate passes to allow team-mates to score - an edge which led to some particularly valuable points last year. "Britts" learned his trade progressing through the ranks in Telford's youth system, also gaining international experience with Team GB at U18 and U20 levels.  Two years with Swindon Wildcats followed but it was a stellar season with Wightlink Raiders in 2008 which  put him at the front of the sport's shop window, and he was quickly snapped up by the Lightning in summer 2009.

Adam said the calibre of the roster being formed for next season was just one reason why he was keen to stay with the club.  "Given the sort of players that Nick (Poole) is looking to sign over the summer, it looks like we'll have a side to compete with the best in the league next year. Even though we had a disappointing end to last season, that's just increased my appetite to get silverware with this club!"

Grant, 25, played his junior hockey with Murrayfield Ravens before moving on to Edinburgh Capitals for two seasons, then relocating to Milton Keynes in summer 2006. During his time with the Lightning, supporters have taken him to their hearts and he has established himself as a firm favourite for his determined, combative style.

The Scot said the backing of the team's supporters helped make re-signing an easy decision.  "I love being a part of this team - the fans are without a doubt the best in the league, so it really was an easy decision. Last season didn't go to plan and we all know that, but one thing is for sure - we'll come back ready to challenge for every piece of silverware out there. It's the MK way - I already can't wait for the season to start!"

Nick Poole said Adam Brittle's flexibility was a huge benefit to Lightning: "He can play any of the forward positions and gives us a lot of versatility as he is a complete player. With his fantastic skating ability he is great on the both the penalty kill and powerplay, and provides our team with energy and pace.  He is a real team player and I know all the players and fans will be delighted to have him back."

"We're very pleased to bring back Grant for another year - he's fast earning a reputation in our league as a real agitator and a pain to play against", Nick continued.  "He's a real team player that plays with passion every night and doesn't back down from any challenge on the ice.

"Grant brings us energy and is a very versatile player as he has good skill and can play either center or wing.  Last season he struggled with a few injuries and niggles and was unable to have a consistent season on the ice.  He's excited about the team we are putting together and I know he wants to have a great year personally and also collectively".
