The MK Lightning & British Heart Foundation Charity Golf Day sponsored by Lok ‘n’ Store

More usually seen on ice, armed with hockey sticks, players from Milton Keynes Lightning will be on grass, armed with golf clubs next month – for the MK Lightning & British Heart Foundation Golf Day sponsored by Lok ‘n’ Store, to raise money for vital research into cardiovascular disease.

The MK Lightning & British Heart Foundation Charity Golf Day will take place at the Three Locks Golf Club near Stoke Hammond on the morning of Wednesday 9 November and will be sponsored by Lok ‘n’ Store, the south-east’s foremost provider of business and household self-storage.  As well as a prize for the overall winner, honours will also be up for grabs for ‘nearest the pin’ and the longest drive of the day.  With the Lightning’s player-coach Nick Poole and several of this season’s roster also in attendance, participants will also have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative photograph from the day, taken by the team’s official photographer, Jez Tibbetts.

With multiple English Premier League honours won during their ten-year history, Lightning - one of Milton Keynes' most successful sports teams  - is also pleased to offer local businesses the opportunity to join them in their fund-raising efforts by sponsoring one of the 18 holes at the event, for only £50.

“Many of us at Lightning are keen golfers, so we’re more than happy to host this event”, said the club’s general manager Vito Rausa. “As a sports team, we’re more than aware of the importance of maintaining good heart health and the walking involved in 18 holes of golf can certainly help with that!

“Around a third of all deaths in the UK are as a result of heart problems, and the British Heart Foundation is constantly researching causes and preventative measures - but they need help with funding to continue their work.  This golf day is just one of several events that MK Lightning will hold this season to benefit the BHF.  We’re thrilled that Lok ‘n’ Store are partnering us by sponsoring  the whole event, and it would be fantastic if other local businesses were to join and help us in helping the BHF by sponsoring one of the 18 holes.”

Nick Poole commented, “It was exhilirating doing the BHF Zip Slide with Ross Green recently, to launch our season-long partnership with the charity, and we’re really looking forward to joining our supporters for a morning’s golf to raise even more money for such a worthwhile cause.  All of us have a heart, but nobody can ever rule out having heart problems for whatever reason - so we’re extremely proud to be partnering with Lok ‘n’ Store to help the BHF continue their work.

“We know many Lightning supporters enjoy golf as much as some of us do, so we’re really looking forward to joining some of them at the Three Locks course. But if you think our competitiveness ends when we leave the ice then you’re in for a shock! “

Only 40 places are available for golfers to participate in this event at a cost of £35 per head, on a strictly first come, first served basis; to secure your place or to sponsor one of the day’s 18 holes, email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it before 5.00pm on Wednesday 2 November.
