Milton Keynes Lightning are delighted to confirm that they will contest the 2012-13 season with netminder Alex Mettam between the pipes once again, in a move that is sure to please the team's supporters. Next season will mark "Mettsy's" fourth consecutive year with three-time league title winners Lightning.
Alex, 24, progressed through the ranks of the youth system in Sheffield before signing for Guildford Flames in 2007, slotting into the roster which won the league title that season. After two seasons in Surrey, he signed for the Lightning in 2009, sharing netminding duties with Barry Hollyhead. Whilst the support of the team's fans had been a factor in his return, Alex said his own development had improved whilst at the team. "I've really enjoyed the last three seasons here, and I feel my game has improved every year - so to come back was a fairly quick decision for me", he said.
"It's great being a part of the team set-up here, and the supporters are second to none, so there wasn't much else to think about!" Head coach Nick Poole was keen to acknowledge Mettam's part in the team, and in particular for the season just ended: "We're thrilled to have Mettsy back as he was instrumental for us last year, and at times he carried us. He is a real competitor that pushes himself in training and makes a shooter work for any goal that is scored. Like the rest of us, the year did not end the way Mettsy wanted to but I know he's excited about the team we're putting together and for the season ahead."
