MK Lightning sign an MK Star

The Milton Keynes Lightning are thrilled to announce the return of home grown talent Leigh Jamieson for the 2009/10 season.  Leigh a product to the Milton Keynes Junior program has been icing in the Elite League for the last six seasons with Coventry Blaze last season and the Belfast Giants for five seasons previous.  Leigh, a 6'4" defender has had several offers from other Elite and EPL clubs but has chosen to return to MK so that he can combine a career outside of hockey with his on-ice ambitions.

Nick Poole on his recent capture, 'To say that I am happy with this signing is an understatement.  I have known Leigh for 10 years and have been very proud of his progress as a player.  Since Leigh left for the EIHL 6 years ago we have spoken often and he has always said that he would like to return when the time is right for him.  I think the last year or two have been tough on Leigh as he has been played out of position and never had a settled role during that time.  Perhaps some of the enjoyment that hockey should offer has been missing in Leigh's game and I know that will return here in MK.  Leigh will be a focal point on our team and his responsibility both on and off the ice will increase dramatically.  He will be one of the dominant players in our league and the management, and I am sure that both players and fans alike will be very excited by his return.'

Leigh on his return to MK,  "I would like to say how pleased and excited I am to be returning to play in MK and thank Nick for making it possible for me to play Elite League hockey for the past six years, which wouldn't have been possible without his input.

This has not been an easy decision for me, but after a lot of consideration and long hard conversations with my family and fiancé Janine, I decided that I need to concentrate on what is best for my long term future. I plan to qualify whilst continuing to work in the family business which I will do throughout the off season hockey with a view to taking over the business when my Father enjoys his semi- retirement.

I have had a amazing time playing professionally and have made a lot of very good life long friends that I will sadly miss playing with, but at the same time I am really looking forward to playing with a lot of my old team mates and returning to play in my home town for the MK Lightning and most importantly winning some silverware.

Roll on September, looking forward to it and seeing all the fans again".

Nick also had the fans to thank in helping to capture Leigh's signature and added, " in the past a number of our fans have helped with the signing of players by helping to contribute towards their expenses and this year they are doing the same by contributing on a weekly basis to Leigh's costs, so a big thank you must go to them for helping us to make this possible".
