Milton Keynes Lightning today conclude their defensive signings with the news that they have signed exciting young player Dan Harris from Basingstoke Bison, for the 2012-13 season.
Dan, 23, hails from North Tyneside and worked his way up through the youth system in Whitley Bay. He enjoyed three very successful seasons with the ENL Whitley Warriors, the final one of which saw Warriors lose only two games all season. That final season also saw Dan gain valuable Elite League experience when he featured four times for the Newcastle Vipers. Last summer he stepped up to the English Premier League signing for Basingstoke Bison, where he iced in 38 regular season games as well as in both of the team's play-off quarter-finals. Dan said his experience of playing against the Lightning last season was a major factor that made signing an easy decision. "Whenever we faced them last year their fans were amazing and you could see that the team was well set-up and very strong defensively. It's a massive club, and when I heard they were interested in me and what they're planning for the coming season, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to working hard but I know I'll learn a lot and become a better player." Lightning head coach Nick Poole said, "When we began looking for a player to fill the position we had, we wanted to find a young hungry player who competed every night - and we believe that in Dan we've found that player. He's a very good team player and takes pride in the defensive zone. He is committed and looks to block shots and make the easy plays. We have a great defensive unit and I feel Dan will fit very well into our team and makes us stronger". Sponsorship of Dan's home, away and warm-up shirts is now available - get your name seen not just on the player's shirt but also in our matchnight programme and on the Planet Ice digital message board for every home league game during the 2012-13 season - or sponsor a shirt to promote your business!
