Lightning Sign Swede As Final Import

ImageThe Milton Keynes Lightning are absolutely delighted to announce their final import player for the coming season, with the signing of  Swedish forward Monir Kalgoum.  Monir, 25 is a Swedish Under 20 international who played and indeed scored a couple of goals in

the World Junior Championships and has spent the bulk of his playing career in the very highly regarded Swedish Allsvenskan league, together with a short stint in Austria.

Monir comes highly recommended by some of our former Swedish and Finnish players who have played with us over the last few seasons.  Former MKL player Toni Alaasarela played with Monir at AIK in Stockholm briefly and spoke very highly of the Swedish player.  Monir also played for the second half of the 2007/08 season with Jo Wiklander in Austria where he notched up an impressive, 30 points, in 13 games.  Last season, due to a stomach illness Monir was only able to play in a handful of games.

Nick Poole on his latest signing, 'We are very pleased to be able to bring in a player of Monir's calibre.  He will be a key player for us this coming season and is a very talented hockey player.  Everyone I have spoken to believes, that Monir will be one of the top players in our league but as importantly will also fit very well into our style of play. He is not only gifted offensively, but a complete player that can and indeed will play in all situations."

Another bonus is that he has also met a number of our players when they travelled over to Stockholm a few months ago which I am sure will help him to fit in well with the players in our dressing room'.

Nick went on to add, 'Monir has always played at a level much higher than our league and thanks to rave reviews of MK and its supporters from Jo Wiklander we have managed to persuade him to come and play for us.  To play for the Swedish Under 20's is quite a compliment and he has also been a part of a very good program in AIK.  At only 25 he is a young player with his best years still ahead of him.  I know he is very excited at the prospect of playing in England this coming season and he is hungry to get back playing again'.

Monir will be flying into the country in early September and will be wearing number 71 this coming season.
