Farn: Lightning fans deserve silverware

Image The Milton Keynes Lightning are thrilled to announce that much sought-after defenseman Michael Farn has committed himself to the club for two more seasons. In his three years so far in Milton Keynes, Michael has become a key member of one of the tightest defences in the entire EPL with an eye for the 'bigger picture', and can often be heard helping motivate his team-mates on the bench between shifts.

The Durham-born d-man, who will celebrate his 24th birthday next month, began his playing career in north-east England with the Billingham Bombers. During the 2005 season he helped Team GB U18's to gold with three goals and four assists in five games at the world junior championships. Summer 2007 saw him move south when he signed for Swindon Wildcats where his form earned him a call-up for Team GB U20's. He signed for the Lightning in time for the 2009 season, where he was an instrumental part of the roster which stormed to the league title that year.

'Farny' said, "When I was asked to come back, it was a no-brainer as the Lightning organisation is second to none. The team for next season is coming together nicely, and we should be pushing for silverware - with the fanbase we have here, it's the least they deserve! Come the start of the season this team will be ready and waiting for the challenge and we'll do whatever it takes to win trophies."

The promise of Farn's potential convinced Lightning management to offer him a two-year deal, said head coach Nick Poole: "We are delighted to bring back Michael for the upcoming season as he has been such an important member of our team over the last three years.  He is still young and we feel there is another level for him to get to but he has improved year on year, so we are delighted to be able to offer him some security by way of a two year deal.  Farny is good athlete, very strong  on the puck and has a cool head for someone so young.  He plays in all situations and has become a real leader amongst the players."
