Michael Farn, voted Best Defensive Player at MK Lightning’s recent end of season awards, has signed to stay with the team for the 2011-12 season. Michael, who turns 23 next month, also won the award for Player’s Player of the Season.
‘Farny’ grew up in County Durham and began his career in his native north-east, playing for Billingham Bombers. Then in the summer of 2007 he made the move south when he signed for Swindon Wildcats, co-incidentally playing in a team that included one of his future MKL team-mates – Adam Brittle. After two seasons in Wiltshire, Michael signed for MK Lightning in 2009 and since then has endeared himself to supporters with regular solid defensive performances that have seen Lightning’s defence proved as one of the hardest to beat in the EPL. Michael has also represented Team GB at both U18 and U20 levels, scoring three goals in five matches in the 2006 World Junior Championships. The solid set-up at Lightning was a key factor in committing to another season in Milton Keynes, Michael commented. “It’s an easy decision to make with the kind of set-up that exists at Lightning. To be part of a very well-run and competitive team is what every player wants, so I’m absolutely delighted to be back for a third season.” Head coach Nick Poole said, “The facts that not only did he win the award for Best Defensive Player, but that his team-mates voted him their favourite player of last season, highlights the high regard that Farny’s held in at MK Lightning. “He’s had two very solid seasons with us and we know he’s a player that other teams would love to have on their roster, so we’re thrilled that Michael wanted to stay in Milton Keynes. In Farny we know we have a no nonsense D-man who’s solid under pressure – and that’s what we’ll need to be in with a shout of winning silverware next season". |
