Milton Keynes Lightning can confirm that the 2012-13 season will see the return of Adam Carr for his tenth season - and that they will reward his efforts with a testimonial game next summer. Adam has signed a two-year contract which secures his services until summer 2014, with next summer's planned testimonial a reward for a decade of outstanding service to the club.
Adam, 27, began his hockey career in his native north-east playing for teams in Sunderland and Newcastle, whilst also building experience at international level. An outstanding season at Isle of Wight Raiders in 2002 brought him to the attention of Nick Poole who signed him for the Lightning in 2003, and he was awarded the captaincy in 2009.
Speaking shortly after signing his extended contract, Adam said how pleased he was to be staying with the Lightning: “I'm really pleased to be back and very proud to be playing my testimonial year for Milton Keynes. I am very grateful to Nick Poole and to the club's owners for signing me again, and for awarding me a testimonial game next summer. It's a big achievement for a player to stay with the same team for ten years, and I'm very proud of that. Hopefully it means I've been doing something right!
"Last season I was disappointed that we didn’t win any trophies or get to Coventry - but things didn’t go our way at times and luck wasn’t on our side on many occasions. But that’s behind us now, and after speaking to Nick about next year I believe it’s a season both the players and the fans can be excited about. It feels like longer than two years since we last won the league - but whatever team we put on the ice and with the backing of the best fans in the league, we’ll do our utmost to bring silverware back to Milton Keynes”.
Lightning’s head coach Nick Poole said the deal was the club’s way of acknowledging Carr’s all-round contribution. “Once again we’re thrilled to be bringing Adam back to the Lightning and to make it a two year deal. It’s incredible that Carrsy has been here for 10 consecutive years as that rarely happens in this game any more. His is always the first name I put on the team sheet as he is such a complete player - he can score, play defense, kill penalties and quarterback a powerplay.
“This isn’t just a testament to how much we believe in him as a player and leader of this club - but also how much we know the club means to him. He is a fantastic player that always puts the team first and I know he is desperate to put some more silverware back into our trophy cabinet. He thoroughly deserves his 10 year testimonial, and I know the fans will agree and help make it a special night for our captain.”
