Week 1 - Weekend Round Up |
|
One week into the season we head into our third and fourth games full of positivity and the knowledge that we must be fitter and sharper over the course of the coming weekend. Our opening set of games saw us beat last year's league champs and then drop points to a very good Sheffield side.
As far as opening games go I thought we played to a very high standard and it was great to see the intensity and desire there from the off in our 5-2 victory over Phoenix. Over the last few weeks we have been talking about the way we want to play and creating an identity of a team that is very hard to beat. We saw evidence of this on Saturday with each player playing their role. The tempo was high and we managed to sustain this for the majority of the match. It was also fantastic to feel and hear the Thunderdome's electric atmosphere during the match. On Sunday I feel the previous evening's efforts had an affect as we were very flat. The guys worked hard but we had no jump or spark and found ourselves trailing very early in the match. Despite some great chances we could never get ourselves on level footing with Sheffield who have a much improved side this season. We were disappointed in our performance and know that we will be a week fitter and sharper for this weekend's games and will be doing all that we can to improve on our road performance. The team are very focused on turning the Thunderdome into a fortress as we want opposing teams to feel beaten before they arrive. If we can continue to play with the same energy levels as last saturday and our fan's can maintain their support levels then this is certainly possible. We know we must be wary of Telford as they have already taken a big scalp in beating Guildford in Surrey two weeks ago. They have a young team packed with speed so it promises to be a very entertaining match. See you all Saturday! |
