After our first 6 games of the season we can be pleased with our results and our placement in the league table but there are plenty of areas to improve on. The team seem to be gelling very well and once again we seem to have created a great spirit within the camp. The new players (Tom Norton and Juraj Gracik) have settled in nicely and have both put in key performances already.
Wins against last year's league champs Manchester and last season's bogey team Slough Jets have given us confidence and the belief that we are a side that will be more than competitive with every team in the league. Also the fact that we have already been in tight situations late in games and managed to grind out wins is most pleasing. We are a team that is set up to win close games and it is important that we are confident and comfortable in these situations. Already we have seen some great individual performances but in particular Alex Mettam has been very quick to find early season form. Having Mettsy playing as he is and the knowledge that Barry is waiting and ready in the wings is very comforting for the team. Adam Brittle has been outstanding as well. Although not getting the points that his play deserves he has been a catalyst for much of our good play. Blaz has also been very impressive at both ends of the ice and has scored some timely goals already. Perhaps most important is the overall play of our defenders and the team's early commitment to defending well. There are areas to improve on. We have had moments in games where we have lost momentum and focus. Against Bracknell we played our best period of the season in the first period but were then guilty of sloppy mistakes that nearly cost us in periods 2 and 3. We have also struggled to get going in both Sheffield and Telford which have been notoriously difficult rinks for us. One thing that is evident is that any team in this league is capable of beating any other team. A team that kind find some consistency and go on a good run will find itself moving very quickly up the table. With two very tough games coming up this weekend against the Bison we will need to be at our very best. |
