Fantastic Season Ends a Week Early |
Sunday's 7-5 loss to Swindon sees our season end on a disappointing note and one week earlier than we had all hoped. I won't go into the details of what was a horrible and painful night for both players and fans but I would like to take this time to say a quick word of thanks on behalf of the players and management.
It has been a very long day with a lot of reflection and I know all the fans are very frustrated and sad like us that we will not be taking to the ice this season in Coventry. Hopefully as next weekend passes we will all be able to look back with pleasure on what has been an incredible season for all involved with MKL. Although we had a mid-table budget we punched well above our weight landing our first silverware in 4 years and made the Cup Finals. This success was due to a fantastic spirit amongst the players that was also mirrored by our amazing supporters. I would need two hands to think of the times we came back in the third period of matches when down by a goal or more. The team always had the belief and the backing of its supporters. It has been a special year to be a member of the Lightning and I would like to thank all our fans for the support you have shown us from day one. It has been a privilege to play in front of you both at home and on the road. We came up short this past weekend and for that we are all sorry. Perhaps the injuries, suspensions and mid-week games finally took its toll. However, I must also congratulate Swindon on a well-deserved first trip to Coventry. They played their hearts out over the weekend and the previous few weeks just to qualify. I think we all wish them well this coming weekend. For all the fans making it up to Coventry without us.... Keep it loud and be proud. As we are of you. We hope to see you all at the "End of Season do" where we can all share in our success over the year and enjoy one final night together. Thanks |
